Release Notes

This is a completely rewritten version of the old module.

This first release candidate attempts to also upgrade existing blog modules (both versions 4 and 5).

This is the release candidate. Please don't use this in production. I reserve the right to change the data model for this release and not provide you with a migration script. So just use this for testing.

There are a few shifts of paradigm with this version you need to be aware of:

1. Any blogger (module permission) can create any number of blogs in a module. Each can have specific settings pertaining to languages and ghost writing. Every blog has its own set of permissions.

2. The module uses templates instead of various module definitions. If you want to add a blog list, you add a new copy of the module to the page with that template. On the module settings you specify the template to use and if it should render the management panel.

3. You do stuff through the big buttons at the top (management panel). "Manage" means manage blogs/posts. "Admin" is for editors of the module and pertains to settings and categories.

So please go ahead and give this a try. It implements BlogML import/export so you can play around with existing content if you want.

Points of interest in feedback:
  • Upgrades.
  • IPortable. Although tested it may need more testing.

Note: between alpha, beta and release candidate there are db schema changes So you can't upgrade from one to the other.

Reviews for this release

The only problem I have run into is the actual blog post "handling" time zones. The post date is calculated based on your user profile time zone settings. I'm not sure what purpose this would actually solve as the date calculated is based on the server time. This ends up converting time to UTC which would be great if your server was based on UTC time but mine is not.

I use the coreblog since 2007. I recently updated it to 411 and running quite well on dnn706. My attempt to update to blog6RC just failed. Not install with warnings, but failed.

1) seems weird, but copy module function doesn't work at all to start with ! 2) Copy module popup does not work properly in some of costume skins Dnn 7.1.0 Dnn 7.0.6
